Setting mailaccounts Outlook (Windows)

Using this guide, you can set up Outlook 2010, 2013 and 2016 so that you are able to send and receive e-mail in this programme. This guide assumes you wish to use the POP3 protocol. If not, read about IMAP server settings here.

Within Windows, go to the “Control Panel”/configuration screen.

Click on “Category/Category” at the top right and choose “small icons”.

Click on “Mail”.

Click on “E-mail accounts”.

In the E-mail tab, click “New”/'New'.

In the newly opened window, tick “Manual setup or additional server types”/'Manual setup or additional server types'. Click on “Next”.

After this, choose “POP or IMAP”. Click on “Next”.

Fill in the requested details using the example given below.

Then click “More settings”/'More settings' and go to the “Outgoing server/Outgoing server” tab. Make sure the choices below are selected.

Then, in the same window, click on the “Advanced”/'Advanced' tab. Copy the settings below from the blue box. Should you not get a choice of “TLS” for the outgoing server, choose “STARTTLS” or “Automatic”.

In the above window, there is also a “Delivery/Delivery” category.

In this category, you can determine whether the e-mail is kept (temporarily) in the mailbox or stored locally on your device.

1. When the checkbox “Leave a copy on the server” is on, any e-mail retrieved by your programme will be kept in the mailbox.

2. The “Delete from server after x days” checkbox determines how long the e-mail is retained in the mailbox. With the setting “14 days”, the e-mail is kept in the mailbox for up to two weeks after receipt. If on your device the email has already been retrieved, it will be retained on the device unless you delete the email yourself from the programme.

When the settings have been entered, click “OK” and the window will close. Then click “Next”.

The settings are then tested by Outlook. If the tests succeed, you can see this through the green tick marks. If not, the settings must be checked again.

Click on “Finish”. Your account is now set up.
