As far as Joost is concerned, the added value of PaaS+ lies precisely in the automation of processes. "We use the low-code software Mendix for our applications. The great thing about it is that you can go from an idea to something that works in no time. After some experimentation, we quickly had the Mendix environment on the PaaS+ platform stable enough to start using it for all applications. One of the biggest advantages that PaaS+ offers us as developers is that we can set up a fully functional environment within fifteen minutes. In the past, you first had to submit a server request. Then the server had to be set up and configured... which took a few weeks. Now we can get started right away."

Peace of mind and scalability

For Plegt-Vos' IT administrator Bram Jansen, the PaaS+ environment primarily means peace of mind. "I don't have to worry about it much. Developers create their own environments and can also manage and update them themselves. Joost has fully automated that process. All I have to do is ensure that the firewall rules between our IaaS platform and PaaS+ are in order, so that the platforms can communicate with each other. I also consider scalability to be a major advantage. It allows you to maintain a good balance between capacity and costs. For certain applications, we also use the autoscaling option, which means that scaling up and down is completely automatic."

From construction company to IT company?

Finally, a question for Gerben: is Plegt-Vos actually becoming more of an IT company than a construction company? "Construction is and will remain our core business. But construction is no longer possible without good IT support. As an IT department, we want to spend as little time as possible on management. We want to focus on optimising existing processes and developing new solutions. All with the aim of fulfilling our vision and mission: shaping the enjoyment of living, working and life.
