IT setup for a completely new clinic
About MKA Kennemer & Meer
MKA Kennemer & Meer is an independent clinic that specialises in oral surgery (or, to use the official full term: oral and maxillofacial surgery). The clinic has its origins in the Spaarne Gasthuis hospital in Haarlem. The MKA surgeons had long wanted to start an independent treatment clinic. They finally realised this ambition in Haarlem. And then it was time to set up the new location.
A wealth of references tipped the balance
Eric Schut was involved in this project from the outset as an account manager on behalf of Previder. He explains why Previder emerged as the winner from among the nominated parties after a selection round: "One of the decisive arguments was the large number of references in the healthcare sector that we can now present. We have already assisted many clinics in these types of processes and always work with a permanent team. As a result, we have gained a great deal of knowledge about the specific issues that clinics face. MKA Kennemer & Meer can therefore benefit from the best practices we have collected."
A complete customised package
From the beginning of the project, in early 2020, there was a lot of pressure. "The aim was to get the clinic operational as soon as possible. Therefore, we immediately started working on getting a phone number up and running, requesting the internet connection and creating some essential e-mail addresses. We then took stock together of exactly what the clinic needed in terms of IT. That's how we ended up with a tailor-made package with all the trimmings."

Healthcare-specific aspects
The environment also has a number of aspects that are distinctly healthcare-specific, Eric says: "An independent clinic like MKA Kennemer & Meer works a lot with other healthcare providers. That's why it's important to link the clinic to care-specific solutions, such as connecting to VECOZO, and to be able to securely unlock data from central databases to the local EHR. Fortunately, at Previder, we have a lot of experience in this area and meet the requirements of the Well-Managed Care Networks, the GZN. This is how we were able to establish the secure link between MKA Kennemer & Meer's EPD and the LSP. We also provided the link with ZorgDomein, for secure mail traffic. Furthermore, in cooperation with specialist partner Dentalair, we realised a solution for the secure storage of X-ray images in the EPD."
Previder supplied, among other things:
- 50 fully equipped workstations (screens and compact PCs mounted behind them) based on Citrix technology and Microsoft Office
- Links to healthcare networks
- A modern telephone system based on VoIP and a mini-call centre for appointment traffic
- Managed internet, including wireless network and fallback to handle faults
- Other hardware (printers, scanners, network components etc.)
Comprehensive support
In the past, MKA Kennemer & Meer employees used the Spaarne Gasthuis IT environment. The transition to this completely new environment brought the necessary changes. Eric: "During going live, we had people on site for several days to help employees get started. Since that start-up phase, one of our consultants is on secondment at the clinic one day a month to solve questions on site. The management says: "Previder understood very well that our employees couldn't just be left to their own devices when going live. Then it's nice to have someone on site who you can go to with your questions. Patiently, for example, setting up a default printer or the possibilities of the telephone were explained."
Specialism
Eric observes that helping set up independent clinics is increasingly becoming a Previder specialism. "What we have done here, we have already done at a lot of other clinics in the Netherlands. One of them is the Bergman Clinic, which also happens to have a location in the building where MKA Kennemer & Meer is located. We notice more and more clearly that our experience in this world gives other clinics, both existing and start-ups, the confidence to choose Previder as well."
