Healthcare IT modernisation for Ikazia Hospital
*This is a project we went through with Ikazia Hospital in 2019/2020.
Previous situation at Ikazia Hospital
The current Citrix environment is mainly causing problems due to the rapid digitalisation within Ikazia Hospital, says Mels de Klein, who is supervising this project on behalf of Previder. "Mass image calling, for example, requires higher performance than the current environment can handle. Moreover, the current environment is set up so that a number of people use a certain amount of computer capacity. If one user loads the environment heavily, others suffer. In the new concept we are now rolling out, that problem is off the table."
The concept that was rolled out at the time is still running satisfactorily but is in need of replacement at certain points. On the one hand, this is a question of technology, hardware and licences; on the other, the Ikazia Hospital - partly due to corona - had an accelerated need for specific facilities for digital collaboration, such as Microsoft Teams. The hospital's desire to provide more digital care to patients was also a clear argument in favour of renewal.

Split into two phases
The desire to revamp the existing environment was further driven by the corona situation. ICT manager Nell Hoogzand: "There was suddenly a huge need for means to communicate digitally. So we split the project in two. In the first phase, we made Teams available in a few weeks to a group of 200 employees who needed it most. These users can now meet digitally simply from home. In the second phase, we are working on a completely new environment based on Citrix, including the associated new hardware and licences."
Also switching to Microsoft 365
With the implementation of the new Citrix environment, Ikazia Hospital will also switch to Microsoft 365. "For the employees, this entails a different way of working. This is why we engaged our sister company Winvision to ensure that the new environment is properly adopted by the users. Ikazia also hired its own students as floorwalkers for this purpose. They talk to users to identify bottlenecks. This allows us to find out what is going on and solve problems quickly", says Mels de Klein. Nell Hoogzand adds: "This is clearly a project that also affects the processes on the shop floor, so it is super important that our users are properly included in this. This fits in nicely with Ikazia's motto “Better for each other”."
