Working in the cloud helps deltaWonen innovate

Besides renting, managing and building houses, deltaWonen wants to be at the forefront of creating strong circular and inclusive neighbourhoods. ‘Working with the cloud helps us do that,’ says Agnes Ellermann-Huls, manager of business management. A conversation about working in the cloud and heading towards Growth and Happiness.

Stepping into the cloud on course to Growth and Happiness

Corporations exist to build, rent and manage housing. This is no different at deltaWonen, were it not for the fact that the corporation also explicitly aspires to excel in Growth and Happiness. Working in a modern cloud environment contributes to this, Agnes begins the interview: "Our colleagues contribute to this ambition every day by continuously improving. This requires an agile and digital organisation - supported by processes, systems and information provision - that constantly moves with changes to generate customer value. Working with the cloud helps us enormously in the innovation required for our services. Now and in the future."

Add value

According to Agnes, it is essential that the new environment adds value to the corporation's services. "It offers opportunities to exchange data to and from internal and external parties. In order to innovate, you want to be able to exchange data with each other." As an example, Agnes mentions deltaWonen's energy living lab. "We make data from this energy living lab available to the market to innovate in technical systems for the purpose of energy transition. By contributing to this innovation, we are working with suppliers on the energy transition."

Cooperation between Previder and deltaWonen

According to Agnes, the example also endorses that a modern cloud environment facilitates cooperation within and outside the organisation. "We are pleased that this enables us to better facilitate cooperation, both among employees and with our cooperation partners. At deltaWonen, we are convinced that sharing knowledge and learning from each other contributes to the continuous improvement of our services. And that is precisely what it is all about."

Push in the back

The move to working in the cloud received a push in March 2020 at deltaWonen - as at many fellow corporations - due to corona restrictions. "At that time, we were in the middle of a vendor and cloud solution selection process. Although we finally started using Previder's new cloud environment in December 2020, in the meantime colleagues could work together in a temporary solution based on the old traditional environment. In this way, colleagues worked in an environment that was familiar and secure to them, but lacked the ability to work together in processes independent of place and time."

Transition and guidance

The transition to the new cloud-based working environment was achieved together with Previder, explains Agnes. "Now Previder relieves us further by keeping the IT environment available and ensuring that our employees can work safely with sensitive data. Employees are important in adopting their the new way of working. That is why we included employees in the change as much as possible from the start and paid a lot of attention to training. To keep up with innovation, we have permanently embedded training in the full breadth of our organisation."
