AI and Digitalisation in Healthcare: Dare to pioneer!

The healthcare sector faces huge challenges: long waiting lists, a shortage of practitioners and the lack of autonomy for clients, leading to lengthy treatments. But in these challenges lie precisely the opportunities - for faster, more efficient care and a better experience for the patient or client. The solution? AI and digitisation.

At our recent roundtable, healthcare professionals came together to exchange knowledge and experiences on the applications of AI in healthcare. It was an inspiring session, full of insights that show us that the future is now. Here we share some of the key lessons and inspiring ideas we discussed.

AI in Healthcare: Opportunities AND Challenges

There is no doubt that AI offers huge opportunities for healthcare. From note-taking and reporting to supporting practitioners with predictive apps. But how do you ensure that the data entering these systems is reliable? After all, data analytics can only work if the data is correct and clean.

A key lesson we learned: data must stay in a closed AI system. Using external data can lead to contamination in the results. This means that we need closed AI systems that ensure data integrity, and that identity and access management (IAM) is crucial to ensure that only authorised people have access.

But AI offers more than just technological solutions. It can also bring healthcare closer to the patient by easing the administrative burden. For example, consider treatment sessions that are automatically recorded, transcribed and turned into conversation reports using AI. This leaves more time for care and less for administration.

Digitisation: Collaboration is the Key

There is still a lot of work to be done when it comes to collaboration and standards in healthcare. Many healthcare institutions struggle with capturing data in a uniform way. Fortunately, there are initiatives like Stichting Nuts that are taking an important first step in this. Sharing knowledge and best practices is essential - and that is exactly what made the roundtable session so valuable.

By organising roundtables, healthcare institutions can learn from each other and take steps together in digitalisation. Because the challenges are often the same, but the solutions can sometimes differ between healthcare disciplines. It is important to share knowledge and learn from each other so that we all move forward faster.

The STOZ grant: Your Opportunity for Acceleration

Another opportunity we discussed during the roundtable is the STOZ grant. Many healthcare organisations miss out on this grant, even though it is precisely designed to boost digitalisation and AI. The application is relatively simple and there is still a lot of money available in 2025. This is an opportunity to digitise your organisation faster and more efficiently without having to bear the full cost yourself.

Dare to Do!

The biggest lesson we took from the roundtable? Just do it! We often doubt whether we are ready to leap into the digital world. But practice shows that sometimes we have to “fail” first to really move forward. So: dare to pioneer, even if it means going 3 times on your nose. The reward is worth it.
